Nelliyampathy is an captivating hill station located in Palakad District of Kerala. It dishonesties in the Southern half of Western ghats. This is one of the famous hill stations of South India and a spectacular city for nature lovers, Nelliyampathy is a flawless holiday spot for visitors in Kerala.
Nelliyampathy is widely recognized as Nelliampathi and lies close to Palakkad, about 54 Kms from the city. The place is circumscribed by tea and coffee plantations which offers a very pleasant environment. Nelliyampathi can also be reached from Nemmara which is located at a distance of 30 Kms.

This mesmerising hill station is at a height of 467 to 1,572m above sea level. At least 10 hairpin bends have to be climbed on the hill road that passes through the magnificent ageless plantations of the Sahya Series which is the delight of trekkers.
The major tourist attractions at Nelliyampathy are Pothundi Dam, Seetharkundu view point, Kesavanpara view point, Mampara view point and many tea estates. The Pothundi Dam was constructed in 1800AD without using cement or concrete and lies at the foot hills of Nelliyampathy. The mountains and forests of Nelliyampathy offer immense opportunities for trekking.

Nelliyampathy hills is the faulted edge of Palakkad Gap of Western ghats. When the mountain ranges of western ghats broken due to seismic action in Pallakkad region, the mountains of the area were sunken and the gap was formed. That is why the average hight of the gap is 150MSL where as its north and south edges attained high mountains up to 2694MSL. Nelliyampathy is in the south edge of the gap in Anamalai bio-geographic zone. Anamalai is a biodiversity hotspot with high endemism. The flat land of the gap is rich agricultural fields. This gap was paved way for migration of man and wildlife to the west coast and mountains. The wildlife of Nelliyampathy is very rich due to close proximity to the surrounding forests of Parambikulam, Anamalai TR, Peechi, Sholayar.
      
                 Nelliyampathy is the perfect location for eco-tourism. Perched at a height of 1585 m above the sea level on the Western Ghats, Nelliyampathy is a beautiful place. Vellachimudi, Mayanmudi, Valiyavana and Vela Vanchan are some of the important peaks in this mountain range. Padagiri is the highest peak situated on the Nellikotta mountain ranges.
Flora & Fauna :The forest of Nelliyampathy composed of wet evergreen & moist deciduous in the upper elevations; and dry deciduous in lower elevations in the north. A good number of resident and migrant animals are sharing this rich habitat. Elephants, wild gaur, sambar, Nilgiri langur,
wild boar, barking deer etc are common sighting, where are as  critically endangered species like Lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri Tahr, Tiger, leopard etc are sighted occasionally. The land is home for 280 species of birds. It is one of the rich habitat of Indian pied horn bill. Apart from species diversity population of the birds are also rich
