River Dam, Trissur, Kerala, India.:-
“Parannur chira” (പാറന്നൂർ
ചിറ) the step mother of
Kechery River and it is a River Dam serves irrigation purposes of the near
villages surrounded. Now a days Parannur Chira getting more popular as tourist
spot and film shooting zone. This is a
charming and nostalgic day-tripper spot of natural lovers.
The amazing water front by many acres of paddy
fields and river dam will offer you a picturesque spot to unwind you. For
nature lovers, Sunset is the most preferred time to visit here. The grassy charming river dam is really in a tranquil
atmosphere. The scenic majesty forms a perfect backdrop for an evening out and
a cool walk. The stunning sight of green river dam overlapped by water-filled paddy
fields, streams and lush villages makes our trip a fully filled fantasy to treasure
for long. It definitely give you a breath taking views.
It is a usual place for villagers to do jogging in the
morning to get the blessing by wet breeze from Parannur Chira. Fishing is most
enjoyable activity here and you can find the fusion of professional fishing as
well as tradition fishing. Evening will be bit crowded with many regular card
players, evening walkers, families and youngsters etc.. Political debates also
take place here every day.
The surrounding of Parannur chira is laid by paddy
cultivation. Different species of kingfisher’s and other water birds are spotted
by nature lovers. As paddy fields contains both fresh waters and brackish
waters, fishes from both habitats found here.

/ sep ) as the river dam will full filled by water and encircled by greenery. There
is no shops nearby so you should carry everything if you really wished for eat
out at travel to Parannur Chira. It is not advisable to climbing down to the
river.
There is a controversy still alive about the name and
ownership of Parannur Chira. It was earlier known as Chiranellur Chira as the
large portion of the Chira (Dam) established in Chiranellur Village. The mythology
says the name of Chiranellur village kept because of Chira ( Dam). The Name Chiranellur found from CHIRA + NELL+
OOR . It says ‘CHIRA’ means DAM, ‘NELLU’ means PADDY, ‘OOR’ means LAND. There
is a dam (CHIRA ) to cultivate paddy (NELLU) in a particular land ( OOR). So it
became as CHIRANELLUR and it is a geographic hierarchy based name. But now the
Chira ( Dam) known as Parannur chira. The Parannur chira stay as a border
between Chiranellur village and Parannur Village.
Parannur Chira is just 4 km away from Kechery town, then 18
km away from Thrissur city, and 15kms away from Guruvayur temple. It is located
in between Trissur Calicut state highway. The Parannur Chira begins from Machad
forest range which is about 6000 Ft. above the sea level and flowing through
different areas and it will continue flowing via Kechery Puzha ( Kechery River)
as a beautiful place.
The Parannur Chira got few more branch rivers which will
make her much further gorgeous. As it is an extended village of Kechery town
which has its own multifaceted culture and heritage. You can find a mosaic of
different cultures, religious and lineages. Kechery was an age old arecanut
market known throughout the country. Kechery is renowned for its contributions
to world in fields as diversified as football to literature to films.
The place
is well known for celebrations. Kechery Parappookkavu temple festival is the
most famous and colorful event because of number of elephants and festival
related myths and beliefs.
